Cruising Carnival Part 2……..

OK so I pulled my finger out of my bum and decided to post the second half of the story.  I want to re-iterate that I had a lovely time with my family and was ever so greatful to have it gifted to us.  This is purely a mum with 2 kids view of how Carnival caters for family (or in their case, doesn’t cater) [...]

Family Christmas Vacation (best go make yourself a cuppa, it’s gonna be a long one!)

Hello everyone! it’s been a while.  I hope you all had a wonderful holiday.  If you have a moment to sit down and take a break, I would love to take you through my experience of our first vacation with the 2 kids. I will warn you that it will contain several anxiety attacks and angry rants, but it will also have the most beautiful moments and incidents that will melt your heart.  In short, this vacation was a wonderful, manic, panic inducing, hot mess of love, laughter, absolute knob heads, too much food, seasickness and romantic evenings in the bathroom. The Glory of a two way conversation

Something we take for granted is the art and skill of a two way conversation.  I know there are probably going to be times ahead when I will dread the things that will spew from Thing 1′s mouth, but right now, I am so excited and so proud of her being able to hold a nice conversation with us.

Admittedly the topics tend to go off on tangents but they are such delightful stories.  Today she apparently went in a boat with her best friend, she also then did singing on the boat, specifically “old MacDonald” and “ABC”.  Then she was not on a boat but she was in a bath and she was swimming.  Then all of a sudden she was talking about raisins and that was the end of the conversation. By George I Think She’s Got It!!!

Thing 1 has had 2 weeks WITHOUT DIAPERS!!!!!!!!!!! I still can’t quite get my head around it.  It was literally like one day she woke up and decided,”Sitting in my own crap and pee is a bit of a pain in the arse (literally)”.  I was a late bloomer as a child when it came to potty training and my dad will regularly remind me that he once commented “I hope I’m not doing this when you are 18″.  I was beginning to think the same about Thing 1.  You hear these stories about kids who still sleep in their mummy and daddy’s room at 25 years old.  Thats just so weird in my book.  Unless you are a nomadic tribe who lives in a yurt, its weird.

As you regular readers will know, Thing 1 took a bit of a step back when Thing 2 was born.  She was living in diapers and just would not do anything on the potty.  We would read to her, paint her nails, play DVD’s of Bear in the Big Blue House.  Eventually something must have happened because literally overnight, 2 weeks ago, Thing 1 wanted to use nothing but the toilet and her potty.

It was such an about turn, we did not know how to react to it.  Do we leave her in underwear all the time now? Do we put her in a diaper when we go out?  We just didn’t know! We figured the best thing to do is to pack lots and lots of clothes in our bag and trial everything.  The results are as follows: [...]

A Hurricane, a hissy Fit and huge doo-doo…..

Unless you have been living under a rock you will all know that we have encountered some bad weather with Hurricane Sandy.  Yes we live in NY state but 5 hours North of Manhattan so we were not affected.  That didn’t mean we didnt prepare…..we were fully prepared for Armageddon, headless horsemen and other such doomsday characters. When did my husband become the town babysitter?

Grrrrrr. Warning. This post may feature angry surpressed thoughts that have been festering since Sunday and have gone all rotten and smelly and are in danger of exploding in a toxic cloud of profanities in an inappropriate place if I am not careful.

In the words of Peter Griffin from Family Guy……”do you know what really grinds my gears?”  Parents who take their kids to the local playground and then fail to monitor them, so my husband has to go in and do the job when they misbehave.  This happens all too often and i am starting to think its an epidemic. Thing 2 is on the move!! Thing 1 is ready for public speaking

Well I am a lady of my word and I promised that I would be more diligent with documenting thing 2′s milestones.

This last week we have seen some notable changes.  Mainly it is her mobility.  She is able to sit herself upright in her crib.  It is so sweet when I go in there on a morning and she is just sitting there waiting for me.  It has only happened a couple of times, most of the time she is on her belly and her legs start kicking like mad when i enter the room. Watching movies with Thing 1 – AKA snuggle time

What cracks me up about my husband living with me on Venus is that guys like to be mens men, you know using saws and belt sanders and pretending a drill is a gun.  That is, until little girls come along.  Then they call me up squealing at excitement at the fact that Disney TOTALLY just released Cinderella from the vault on Blu-Ray.  This is precisely what happened to me the other day.

Thing 1 LOVES the book Cinderella.  We start off the book by looking at the name and using our finger to say the syllables. “Cin-Der-Ell-A”  We repeat the same thing over and over afew times until she says it perfectly.  Then we go back to say it all as one whole word and she says “fufferella” so funny!  [...]

Rainy Day Entertainment

The weather is starting to close in now as we have entered fall.  Living in Upstate New York we are treated to a rich, vibrant display of colors as the leaves finally give up the fight and prepare for winter.  This now means more rainy, cold days and certainly no swimming in the lakes anymore.  We are forced to look elsewhere for entertainment.  About a year ago we stumbled on a place locally that really fits the bill and fulfills several goals for our children:

1.  The kids can run around and bounce on everything

2. They can scream as loud as they want

3. The leave absolutely exhausted!

I am speaking of a local indoor bounce house called Live 2 Bounce.
